A little more about this tea ...

We take the quality and flavour of our teas very seriously but none more so than our masala chai tea.  In 2016 we started working with an organic tea garden in Sri Lanka and this is where the tea and spices for this blend are grown.  We are really thrilled to offer you this beautiful option which we consider is one of the best available.

Chai means tea throughout most of India and Masala means spiced mixture . The delicious and warming drink known as Masala Chai is typically black tea leaves brewed with spices along with water, milk and a sweetener. Each masala chai recipe has its own personality and taste. You will find the following spices in the Stir blend each bringing their natural goodness: Cinnamon (warming and naturally sweet), Ginger and Cardamom (calming), Cloves and Black Pepper (stimulating).  These spices have been recognised in Chinese and Indian natural medicine for centuries. An ancient tradition was to stir your cup of tea with a cinnamon stick so it could impart its warming, relaxing goodness.

The addition of a sweetener to your brewed Masala Chai is considered essential by many chai enthusiasts to unlock the flavours of the spices even further. Experimenting with this will quickly reveal your personal preference - play with white sugar, brown sugar, honey or maple syrup for different results.

Use our blend tea as a base for traditional boiled milk style chai (see below) or brew in the manner of a normal cup of tea adding milk and sweetener if required.

Traditional Boiled Milk Style (2 serves):

1. Combine 1.50 to 2 dessertspoons of Stir Masala Chai, 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of water in a saucepan (or use all milk for a very rich and nourishing drink). Stir and bring to the boil.

2. Reduce heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes (we prefer closer to 5 minutes). Remove from the heat, stir in sugar or honey to your liking and strain into a bowl.

3. Whisk to a froth (if desired) and pour into cups.  Enjoy.
